After being asked to form a brass quintet and play a few tunes at an Oakland University concert in 1989, the members of the Light Metal Band couldn't "put it away". Able to work so well as a unit, they decided to stay together and see where it would take them. Now, years later, the Light Metal Band has become a respected and regularly performing group. Although most engagements have been within the Detroit area, the Light Metal Band has performed in Germany, Austria, Prague, Washington D.C. and Boston. In the Detroit vicinity, the Quintet has performed at many community events, including Greenfield Village, Rochester's Arts and Apples and the Clarkston Art Fair. Audiences have enjoyed the music of the Light Metal Band because they play tunes that everyone recognizes and enjoys - show tunes, marches, ragtime, jazz, swing, and an occasional classical favorite.

Dave - plays the trombone in the Quintet and is an active member of the Rochester Symphony. With a degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan, it is a wonder why he has never engineered. Dave is a man of many talents, certified as an airplane pilot, EMS technician and scuba diver. He runs his own technical software and hardware services company during the day, reserving the evenings for music; and flying and boating and dancing lessons, and his groupies are little pests. |

Paul - Very much in demand as a professional trumpeter in the Detroit area, he is involved with many performing groups. Paul currently plays principal trumpet with the Rochester and Macomb Symphonies, and is E-flat Soprano soloist with the Dodworth Saxhorn Band. At various times he has performed with the Warren, Plymouth, Southern Great Lakes, Lake St. Clair, and Grosse Pointe Symphonies. As if that weren't enough, Paul has also performed with the Metropolitan Concert Band, Downriver Big Band, Michigan Chamber Brass, and Detroit Brass Society. Paul earns his living as a freelance musician, performing at many different functions including weddings, church services, patriotic events, and studio playing. When questioned about his musical education, Paul’s typical reply is “not much”. A graduate of Oakland University with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts, Paul did study briefly at The Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Paul is a long standing member of The International Trumpet Guild, Local 5 (Detroit) of The American Federation of Musicians, and more recently, Bugles Across America, an organization dedicated to ensuring “Taps” is sounded by live buglers at our Veterans’ funerals. |
